A medication called 5a-reductase inhibitors (5ARIs) that is used to stop male pattern baldness and to treat enlarged prostate can cause older men to become depressed and to harm themselves. A doctor a part of the study named Dr. Richard Catanzaro states that ‘the study also raises several other interesting issues: Does the slight risk that a medication may cause an increase in depression and self-harm outweighs the benefits of treating a non-life-threatening condition that someone feels severely impacts their life?”
